Eritrea bishops in critical letter

Four Eritrean Catholic bishops have published a letter criticising life in the country – a rare move in one of the world’s most tightly controlled states.

Although they were careful not to condemn the government directly, correspondents say the letter-writers are taking a huge risk.

Many of the migrants who drowned off Lampedusa last year were from Eritrea.

The bishops referred to this, saying: ”There is no reason to search for a country of honey if you are in one.”

Human rights groups have called Eritrea a ”giant prison”, with torture widespread.

Amnesty International last year said some 10,000 Eritreans had been imprisoned for political reasons since independence from Ethiopia in 1993. This was denied by the government.

Young men must do national service until the age of 40, prompting an estimated 3,000 to flee the country each month.

Handle detainees ’humanely’

In their letter, the bishops wrote that the country had become ”desolate” because so many people had left, or were ”scattered in [national] service, army, rehabilitation centres, prisons”, leaving no-one to look after the elderly.

They wrote that Eritreans were going to ”peaceful countries, to countries of justice, of work, where one expresses himself loudly, a country where one works and earns”.

The letter was signed by Bishops Mengsteab Tesfamariam of Asmara, Tomas Osman of Barentu, Kidane Yeabio of Keren and Feqremariam Hagos of Segeneiti.

The bishops pointedly said that ”all those who are arrested should first be handled humanely and sympathetically” and then be presented to court for trial.

After the Orthodox, the Roman Catholic Church is the second biggest in Eritrea and correspondents say the bishop of the capital, Asmara, in particular, wields considerable influence in the country.

‘ጨጓር ከልቢስ ኣሎ እናበሉዎ ሞተ’ ከም ዝበሃል፡ ሎሚ ድማ ኤርትራ ኣላ እናበልናያስ ንሞት ርብዒ ጎደል በጺሓ ትርከብ፡ እቲ ኣብ 1991 ዝነበረ ናጻ ምውጻኣ፡ ሎሚ ብሰንኪ ኣዕናዊ ስርዓት ህግደፍ ናብቲ ቅድሚ 1991 ዝነበረቶ ዘመነ እንክሒራ ተመሊሳ ኣላ። ሃገር ካብ ባርነት ናብ ናጽነት፡ ካብ ድሕረት ናብ ምዕባሌ ክትሰጋገርን ናብ ዳሕረዎት ትውልዲ ክትመሓላለፍን ተራ መንእሰያት ኣዝዩ ኣገዳሲ ኢዩ። ኣብዚ ህዝቢ ብመደብ ዝጸንተሉ ዘሎ ግዜ፡ ታሪኽ ናይ ምስግጋር ጋግ ይፍጠር ኣሎ።ድሕሪኡ ከኣ መንነት ናይ ምስግጋር ጋግ ይስዕብ። እዚ ጋግ እዚ ሕጂ ብጸቢቡ ከሎ እንተዘይ ኣስጢምናዮ ድማ መመሊሱ እናገፍሐ ይኸይድ’ሞ፣ ደሓር ናብ ከተላግቦ ዘይትኽእል ዓቢ ቅራር ይቕየር። እቶም ዝስዕቡ ዘለዉ ዳሕረዎት ወለዶታትና ከኣ፣ ናይ ታሪኽን መንነትን ባዶሽ ኮይኖም ይተርፉ።

ጻማ ጀጋኑና ፣ ጻማ’ቶም ካብ ሓምድ እድሪስ ዓዋተ ክሳብ እታ ናይ መወዳእታ ድምጺ ኳሕ-ገም ኣብ ምሕራር ምልእቲ ኤርትራ ዝሓለፉ፤ ጻማ’ቶም ኣብ ሰጣሕ ጎላጉል ሳሊና ምስ ታንኪ ብቴስታ ዝገጠሙ ምዑታትና፤ ጻማ’ቶም ኣብ ኩሉ ግንባራት መስተንክር ዝፈጸሙ ሰብ ቅያ፣ ‘ጽውጽዋይ ወኻርያን በጊዕን ‘ ኮይኑ ክተርፍ’ዩ። ከምኡ ኮይኑ ዝተርፍ እንተኾይኑ ድማ “ጻመውከ ለከንቱ ኤሳው‘’ ማለት’ዩ።

ኣብቲ እምባ መግዛእቲ ብኳዕናኑ ዝነበረሉ ግዜ መንእሰይ እንተዘይብድህን እምቢ ኣይግዛእን ኢሉ እንተዘይዓጥቕን፣ ናጽነት ሕልሚ ምኾነት! ኤርትራ ኩላትና ከም እንፈልጦ ነዚ ብርሃን እዚ ንምርካብ ልዕሊ 65,000 ምሩጻት ደቃ ሞባእ ንናጽነት ከም ዝኸፈለት ኩሉ ዝፈልጦ ሓቂ ኢዩ። እዞም ሰማእታት ሂወቶም ክትሓልፍ ከላ፣ ብድሕሪኦም ሃገር ዝሃንጹ ወለዶታት ከም ዘለዉዎም እናኣመኑ ኢዮም ተሰዊኦም። እምነቶም ኣብ መንእሰያት ረዚን፣ ጠመተኦም ናባኻትኩም ዓቢ ስለዝነበረ ከኣ ንመስዋእቲ ከም ልደት፤ ንቀብሪ ከም ጥምቀት ገይሮም ተቐቢሎሞ።

ኣብ ከምዚ ዘለናሉ ወቕቲ ድማ እቲ ውርሻ ብጽሑፍን ድምጺን ክመሓላለፍን ክትረኽን ይግባእ። ስለዝኾነ ከኣ’ዩ ፈነወ ሬድዮ ሕድሪ ይጽንሓለይ ዘይበሃሎ ዕዮ ኮይኑ ስርሑ ብንኡስ ዓቕሚ ዝጀመረ። መንእሰያት ከኣ ብተሳትፎኦምን ኣለና ብምባሎምን ሓበን ወለዶታት ንምዃን ዝርኣዩሉ ወቕቲ ሎሚ ኢዩ። እቲ ምንታይ ናይ ታሪኽ ሃጓፍ መታን ከይፍጠር’ሞ ናብ መኣዝን ዘይብሉ ኣንፈት ከይንጓዓዝ። መንእሰያት በብዘለዉዎ ከባቢታት ክውደቡን ንሓድሕዶም ክፋለጡን ዝሓለፈ ታሪኽ ኣቦታቶምን ኣያታቶምን ክፈልጡን ዓቢ ሃገራዊ ሓላፍነት ኣለዎም። መዓስ’ከ? ሕጂን ሎሚን።

ሬድዮ ሕድሪ ሰማእታት ካብ ትጅምር ክሳብ ሎሚ ኣብ እግሪ ኢያ ዘላ። ዝኾነ ሃገራዊ መልእኽቲ ዝሓዘለ ጽሑፋ ወይ መደረ፡ ብትግርኛ፡ ብእንግሊዝኛ ወይ ድማ ብዓረብ ንምቕባል ድሉዋት ኣለና። ካብ ዝሓለፉ ታሪኻት ጅግንነት ኤርትራውያን ንመበራበሪ ዝኸውን ፈነወ ይቃልሑ ኣለዉ። እዚ ዝቐርብ ዘሎ ታሪኽ ቃልስን ጅግንነትን ናይ ጎረባብትና ሃገራት ታሪኽ ኣይኮነን። ሃየ መንእሰያት ተራኹምን መንፈስኩምን ዕዙዝ ይኹን። ዋሕዝኹም ናይ በዳህቲ ዋሕዚ’ምበር፣ ናይ ተበትኮ ወሓዚ ኣይኹን። ከም ውሕጅ ክልተ ሩባ ክትሰራሰሩ’ምበር ከምቲ ኣብ ሑጻ ተሰትዩ ዝተርፍ ቅሁም ውሕጅ ክትኮኑ ኣይግባእን።

ንሎሚ ካብቲ ኣብ 1977-78 ኣብ ሳሊና ካብ ዝነበረ ከቢድ ጥምጥም ንእሽቶ ከም መማቕርቲ ከነቕርብ። እዛ ትርእዩዋ ዘለኹም ስእሊ፣ ኣብ 1977 ኣብ ጨው ሳሊና ናይ ዝተሰውአ ሓርበኛ ዜጋ ዓጽሚ ኢያ። ሽዑ ምዝላቕ ምስ ኮነ፣ ሬሳ’ዚ ሓርበኛ ኤርትራዊ ስለ መሬት ተወፍዩ። ከምቲ “እንኮ መዓልቲ’ላ ራህዋ እንረኽበላ” ኢሉ ዝደረፎ ወዲ ትኹል፣ እታ እንኮ መዓልቲ ዓወት ኣብ ሳሊና ተደጊማ። ባጽዕ ብዕለት 10/02/1990 ናጻ ምስ ወጸት ከኣ፣ ዓጽሚ ሓርበኛና ምስ ምልክት ሽዳ ኮራል ባሕሪ ቦቒሉዎስ፡ ኣብ ማዩን መሬቱን ኣዕሪፉ ዝተረኽበ ሓቀኛ ብሮት ጅግና ተረኽበ።

ዝኾነ ነገር ምስ ምንዋሕ ግዜ ይርሳዕ ይኸውን። ግና ገለ ዝኽርታት ፈጺሞም ካብ ኣእምሮ ዘይክወልሉ ግዜ ኣሎ። ኣብ ናትና ታሪኽ ክርሳዕ ዘይግብኦ ድማ ሰንሰለት ኣመጻጽኣ ብረታዊ ቃልስናን ኣረካኽባ ዓወትናን ኢዩ። ንሕና ከም ደቂ ኤርትራ ነቲ ዝሓለፈ ምረት ቃልስናን ኣመጻጽኣ ናጽነትናን እንተረሲዕና ግን ጉዕዞና፣ ጉዕዞ ናይቶም ኣፎም ተኣሲሩ ኣብ ዓውዲ መኸዳ ዝውዕሉ ቁሩናት ኣብዑር ክኸውን ኢዩ። እቲ ዝነበረ ከም ዘይነበረ ክመስል “ እምበር’ዶ ክሓልፍ’ዩ” ዝበሃለሉ ዝነበረ ገጻብ ጭንቂ ምስ ተዓዝረ “ሓሊፉ…ሓሊፉ” ጥራይ ኢልካ ምጥቓዕ ከንቱ-ውእቱ ኢዩ።

ኣብ 1977 ገለ ክፋል ከተማ ባጽዕ ናጻ ወጺኡ፣ ንዝተረፈ ክፋል ናይታ ከተማ ተቖጻጺርካ ናብቲ ሎሚ’ዶ ጽባሕ ናጽነት ዝበሃለሉ ዝነበረ ጉዕዞ መወዳእታ ቃልሲ ንምጽጋዕ፤ ካብ እንዳ ሚኪኤልን ሲነማ ኣይዳን ንቀጣን ገበይ ስጋለት ንምስጋር፣ መጥቃዕቲ ሳሊና ተኸፍተ። መንእሰይ ተጋዳላይ ናብቲ መኸወሊ ዘይነበሮ በራሕ ጎላጉል ሰምሃር ንዓርኪ ሕልፎት ከም ዝወርዱ ጎርዞ ጊላዋ እናዘለለን እናዓለለን ኣትዩ። ሙሉእ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ምረት ነዊሕዎ፣ መነባብሮ ከፊኡዎ ስለዝነበረ ኢዩ ድማ ኣብ ሓጺር ግዜ ዝተኸፍለ መስዋእቲ ይከፈል ክንድቕደቕ ኣሎና ብምባል ንግሆን ምሸትን “ ህጁም” መሪጹ ጅግና። ብሳንጃ ኣብ ዝኾዓቶ ጉድጓድ ፣ ብታሕቲ ጠሊ ጨው ሳሊና፣ ብላዕሊ’ውን ኣብ ዕንጸይቲ ሰራው ከም ዝተሰኽተተት ሞቕሎ እትመስል ጸሓይ ተለብሊቡ ኤርትራዊ ተጋዳላይ።

ብዘይ ዕረፍቲን መብረን ብጥሙይ ከብድን ጽሙእ ጎረሮን ተተፍኒኑ። ኣብ ጉድጓድ ከም ወኻርያ ተቐቢሩ ንሽንቱ ኣብ ታኒካ እናኾፈ፤ ነቲ ከም ማይ ኣይሂ ካብ ጸላኢ ዝትኮስ ዝነበረ መዳፍዕን ኣድራጋ ጠያይትን ከም ዕጨ-እምኒ ነቀይ ከይበለ ኣብ ዝባኑ ኣዝሒሉዎ። ለይቲ ክታኾስ ይሓድር፣ ቀትሪ ክድብደብ ይውዕል። እቲ ስግንጢር መመሊሱ ድኣ ተሰገንጠረ’ምበር ፍታሕሲ ኣይተረኽበን። እቲ ግጥም ከኣ፣ ኣደራራስ ብቦምባን ፋሉልን ኮነ።

ቀጣን ገበይ ስጋለት ብቐሊሉ ትስገር ኣይነበረትን። ጸላኢ ንኹሉ ሻንብቆ ኣጽዋራቱ ናብታ ሓንቲ መስገሪት ኣቕንዖ። ናብ ኣፍ ደገ ስጋለት ቀጣን። እወ … ወይዛ ስጋለት ሎሚ ኣፍ ኣውጺኣ እንተትዛረብስ እንታይ’ኮን ምሰማዕና! ጸሓይ ንረሃጽ ጥራይ ዘይኮነስ እንተላይ ንኣንጉዕ ሰባት ወወሲዳ ንብዙሓት መንእሰየት ደቂ ኤረይ ብ “ኮልቦ ዲ ሶሎ” (ወቕዒ ጸሓይ) ኣንቀጸቶም።

ብመሬት ካብ ውሽጢ ባጽዕ ፣ብባሕሪ ካብ መራኽብ ኲናት፣ ብሰማይ ድማ ካብ ዕስለ ነፈርቲ ሚጋት ስራሓት ሶቭየት ዝትኮስ ዝተፈላለየ ዓይነት ኣጽዋር ንጎላጉል ሳሊና ናብ እሳተ- ጎመራ ቀይሩዎ ነበረ። ሓጻውን ንሓድሕዱ ምስ ተገጫጨበ ካብቲ መላጥ ጎልጎል ሃልሃልታ ናብ ሰማይ ይዓርግ ነይሩ እንተተባህለ ምግናን ይመስል! ደም ደቃ ከኣ ነቲ ዝነድድ ዝነበረ ሃልሃልታ ከም ማይ ቢምቦረ ኮይኑ ይርብርቦ ነበረ።

መንእሰይ እታ ዝኣምና መሬቱ መዕቆቢ ከልኣቶ። ነቲ ካብ ታንክታትን ካብ ናይ 76፣ 81- 82 104፣ 120፣ 122 ሚ.ሜ. መዳፍዓትን ሞርታራትን ዝትኮስ ዝነበረ ቦምባታት ብዘይካ ብቴስታ ምስ ሓጺን ምግጫው ካልእ ምርጫ ኣይነበሮን። እቲ ክስገር ዝነበሮ ወተሃደራዊ ምዕራፍ ክስገር ኣይተኻእለን። ተጻብኦ ሓይሉ። መስዋእቲ ከኣ ኣዝዩ በዝሐ። ኣብ ርእሲ እዚ ጸላኢ ንጎላጉል ሳሊና ማይ ባሕሪ ይፍንወሉ ስለዝነበረ፣ ተጋዳላይ ሙሉእ ሰብነቱ ኣብ ማይ ባድ ኮይኑ ከም ሳብ ማሪን ክዋጋእ ኣይከኣለን። ማይ ባሕሪ ብፍላይ ድማ ጋብላታት ሳሊና፣ ብደም ተጋዳላይ ተበለለ።

ሕብሪ እቲ ማይ ቀይሕን ሓበጀራዋይን ኮነ። ውጉኣት በቲ ጨው በቲ ድማ ኮልቦ ዲ ሶሎ ቀጥቀጦም። ግና “ዓወት ንሓፋሽ” እናበሉ ክስውኡ ይስምዑ። እወ “ ዓወት ንሓፋሽ!” እዚ ጭርሖ ተጋዳላይ መንእሰይ’ዚ ከምቲ ቅዱስ ዳዊት ኣብ መዝሙር 89፣ 1-2 “ ማያት ክሳዕ ነፍሰይ በጺሑ ኢዩ’ሞ ዎ ኣምላኽ ኣድሕነኒ… ናብቲ መርገጺ ዘይብሉ ዓሚቑ ሰልሚ ሰጢመ” ዝበሎ ይመሳሰል። ድሕነት ተጋዳላይ ከኣ ዓወት ህዝቡ ምዃኑ ስለዝኣመነስ “ዓወት ንሓፋሽ” ኢሉ ተሰዊኡ። ግጥም ተጋዳላይ ብንእሽቶ ዓቕሚ ምስ ዓቢ ጸላኢ ክነጻጸር ከሎ፤ ንውግእ ዳዊትን ጎልያድን ኢዩ ዝመሳሰል።

ኩሉ ነገር ጸበበ። መሬት ብገፋሓ ክነሳ ከም ዓይኒ መርፍእ ጸበበት። ኣብ ሳሊና ካብ ምጥቃዕን ምክልኻልን ፤ ምዝላቕ ተመርጸ። መንእሰይ ከም ቆጽሊ ገረብ ቀውዒ ረገፈ። ስለዚ እቲ ሓደ ኣማራጺ ‘ዝሓዝካ ሒዝካ ኣርክብ’ ኮነ። ምረት ውግእ ሳሊና ብጽሑፍ፣ ብደርፊን ግጥሚን ክግለጽ ተፈቲኑ’ኳ እንተኾነ፤ ጭልፋ ካብ ማይ ባሕሪ ኢዩ። ንገዛእ ርእሱ’ውን ምረት ጨው ሳሊና ከእምና ዘጸግሞ ዝነበረ መንእሰይ ተጋዳላይ፣ “ድሕሪ ሎሚ …” ኣይበለን። ስኑ ነኺሱን እጅገኡ ሰብሲቡን ድኣ ንቕድሚት መረሸ።

እነሆ’ምበኣር ዓጽሙን ሽድኡን ኣብቲ ጨው ጸኒሑ። እታ ባሕሪ ዋናታታ ስለ እተለሊ፣ ነቲ ዓጽምን ሽዳን ናብ ጸላእቲ ኣየረከበቶን። ከመይ ገይራ ከተረክቦ? ዋንኣ ተመሊሱ ከም ዝመጻ ኣረጋጊጻ ስለዝነበረት። ናይ መን ዓጽሚ’ኾን ይኸውን! መን ይፈልጥ ናይ ወድኻ…ጓልካ፣ ወድኺ…ጓልኪ፣ ሓውካ…ሓብትኻ፣ ሓውኺ…ሓብትኺ ፤ ናይ ሕጹይኪ ሰብኣይኪ… ሕጽይትኻ ሰበይትኻ፣ መማህርትኺ… መማህርትኻ፤ መምህርካ መምህርኪ… እንተኾነ’ኸ መንይፈልጥ…!

ፍትሒ፡ ኣብ ሰሰለስተ ወርሒ እትሕተም መጽሔት ልሳን ማሕበር ኤርትራውያን ንፍትሒ ኣብ ኢንድያናፖሊስን ከባቢኣን እያ።

ዲሞክራሲ ኣብ ዘይሃለወሉ ሃገር ፍትሒ ክረጋገጽ ስለ ዘይከኣል ንፍትሒ ምቅላስ ማለት ንዲሞክራሲ ምቅላስ ምዃኑ ስነ-ሞጎታዊ ሓቂ ኢዩ። ንዲሞክራሲ ምቅላስ ክበሃል ከሎ ንህዝባዊ ስልጣን ምቅላስ ማለትእዩ። ማዕርነታዊ መሰልን፡ ግቡእን፡ ዜጋታት ኣብ ቅዋማዊ ሕጊ ምስ ዝኽበሩን ምስ ዝስርሓሎምን፡ ፍትሒ ኣሎ ክበሃልይ ከኣል። ፍትሒ ውጽኢት ዲሞክራሲ ካብ ኮነት፡ ብቀዳምነት ዲሞክራሲ ክህሉ ከኣ ልዑላውነት ሃገርን ሓድነት ህዝብን ክሕሎን፡ ክረጋገጽን የድሊ። ሓድነት ህዝቢ ከም ኣምር ምጭራሕ ዘይኮነ፡ ንሓድነት ህዝቢ ውሕስና ዝኸውን ፍትሕን ማዕርነትን ምስ ዝረጋገጽ እዩ። ፍትሕን ማዕርነትን ኣብ ዝተረጋገጸሉ ሃገር ሰላም ይሰፍን። ሰላም ኣብ ዝሰፈነሉ ከኣ፡ ህዝቢ ጸጋታቶም ብግቡእ ክጥቀመሉ ማዕጾ ስለ ዝኽፈት ቁጠባዊ ምዕባሌ ክረጋገጽ ይኽእል።
